The protest which was peaceful at the beginning turned into fistcuffs when staff loyal to Njeze tried to stop the greater number of employees from going outside the premises of the organisation.
Mrs Njeze whose tenure was supposed to end at the expiration of the tenure of former President Goodluck Jonathan called some directors of the agency to announce her new portfolio as co-ordinator as she claimed she was appointed by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Pius Anyim.
An official of NEPAD however said 'it is only the President of Nigeria who has the right to appoint his special adviser on NEPAD and that the new title of Co-ordinator can happen only if the organizational structure is changed"
The workers are saying that the organisation's structure is still the same and its not a parastatal but a department under the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. To become a Co-ordinator or Chief Executive Officer, there has to be enabling laws.
